Year of Charter School Law: During the 2003 General Assembly session, the Maryland Public Charter School Act, SB 75, was passed and Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. signed the measure into law on May 22, 2003.  The law, Title 9 of the Education Article, authorizes the establishment of high quality public charter schools in Maryland.
